Berwind is a small town in McDowell County, West Virginia, United States. It is situated in the southwestern part of the state, near the Virginia border. As of the 2010 census, the population of Berwind was 282.
Berwind was originally a coal mining town, with the Berwind Coal Company operating in the area from the early 1900s until the mid-1950s. Today, the town is primarily residential, with many of its residents commuting to nearby towns for work.
Several historic buildings still stand in Berwind, including the Berwind Railroad Station and the Berwind Post Office, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The surrounding area offers opportunities for outdoor recreation, including hiking, fishing, and hunting.
Berwind is located about 30 miles southeast of Welch, the county seat of McDowell County. It is also relatively close to the towns of Bluefield and Princeton, both of which are located in neighboring Mercer County.
